Government eliminates minimum slaughter weight for cattle starting in 2026

As of January 1, 2026, cattle will no longer be required to meet a minimum slaughter weight, according to Resolution 98/25 issued by the Secretariat of Agriculture and published yesterday in the Official Gazette. The measure repeals all regulations and modifications on this matter imposed since 2007, arguing that “nearly two decades of experience have shown that such restrictions have failed to sustainably improve productivity or quality.”
