India’s beef production is forecast to increase 2% in 2027 to 5 million tons carcass weight equivalent, according to the USDA office in New Delhi.
Cattle and buffalo slaughter is forecast to rise 1.6% to 44.2 million head, while the herd is expected to remain virtually stable at 307 million head. The increase in activity will be driven by firm domestic and export demand and ample availability of animals from the dairy sector.
Exports of carabeef—buffalo meat—are forecast to grow 2.7% to 1.90 million tons in 2027, supported by competitive prices and expanding sales to Egypt, Vietnam, Jordan, the Philippines, and Uzbekistan. Domestic consumption is projected to rise 1.6% to 3.10 million tons.
