Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) confirmed that Australian beef remains exempt from the new 12.5% tariff the US Government announced on all Australian exports, maintaining the 0% arrangement established in November 2025. Sheepmeat and goatmeat, however, will be subject to the new measures, creating additional challenges for exporters and buyers in Australia's largest red meat export market.
MLA said it will work closely with industry and the Australian Government to assess the implications of the announcement and support market access outcomes for the sector. The organization maintains a dedicated office in Washington, D.C., and will continue engaging with government, industry partners and supply chain stakeholders to keep Australian red meat competitive and trusted in the US market.
